Meet SolarGaps – Solar Smart Blinds created by one of the GIC Ukraine 2017 winners

SolarGaps is an All-in-One energy solution, World's First Solar Smart Blinds, created by Yevgen Erik - one of the Global Impact Challenge Ukraine 2017 winners.

SolarGaps are smart blinds that automatically track the sun and generate electricity from its energy. Simply plug in SolarGaps and solar energy starts to power all devices in your home. It can even store power in your home battery storage solution so you can use it as an emergency power supply.

With SolarGaps, you produce your own electricity to save on your electricity bills. With the smartphone app, you can monitor and control SolarGaps from anywhere in the world.

SolarGaps provide three functions simultaneously: 1) They provide shade for your home or office. 2) They can be used to protect your window during storms. 3) They provide you with solar energy to power your appliances.

SolarGaps are efficient enough to generate up to 100 watt-hours for every square meter when mounted outside, and up to 50 watt-hours per square meter when mounted inside. For example, a three-room apartment with windows facing south will be able to produce up to 600 watt-hours or about 4 kilowatts per day. In an office or retail space, you can generate up to 10 times more. Excess electricity can be stored and even sent back through the grid, allowing you to sell energy back to your power company. You’ll be able to run appliances directly without the need for additional batteries.

"We believe that green energy should be available for everybody." — Yevgen Erik, Founder of SolarGaps.

Now Yevgen has got a unique opportunity to participate in the Global Solutions Program at Singularity University. This summer, he will be able to find the solution for scaling his moonshot idea in order to get solar energy to every home in the world.
